Is Hip pain something to worry about when pregnant?

I am 19 weeks and I have had really bad hip and leg pain on my right side for the past three days. It is hard to walk and is very uncomfortable. It is an 8 in the pain range. At first I thought that it was growing pains from things stretching and growing. But it still has not gone away. Is it anything to worry about?

  1. Could be your sciatic nerve – I know a couple of people who went through this, and they described pain like yours. Check in with your doc about it.

  6. no its totally normal!! your bones soften especially in the pelvic and hip area to be able to bend when you go into labor and accomodate baby. Plus baby could be pushing on nerves like your siatica. I had it, we all had it, fun fun!! Wear comfy shoes, get a body pillow for support in bed, and maybe wear a maternity belt. Good luck!

  8. It's your siatic nerve, it's very common for pregnant women to have problem with this, I know I do and I'm 21 weeks pregnant. Talk to your doctor, sometimes a anti inflammatory will help, they should be able to give you some stretches that would help also. As a last resort you could also try a chiropractor, but I would get your docs opinion before you go.

  9. Sounds like sciatic pain.. I had it around that time too. Look into support belts even if you dont have a big bump yet they will help support your hips. Also mention it to your doctor you may be able to get some physical therapy to learn some exercises to keep this from happening. You could try a warm compress as well.

  10. I'm 29 weeks and 1 day along and I've been having really bad hip pain and pressure since I was about 20 weeks along as well. My doctor told me that its because when you start to get closer to your third trisemester that your ligiments slowly start to soften (so they are more plyable by the time you go into labor and delivery) which makes sense. She said that soon it'll feel like my hips are going to pop out of place with every step I take and boy do I feel like that lol! My ankles and knees…all my lower extremety joints hurt as well and my doctor said its just because of the weight gain….while I've only gained 9.2 pounds since the day I got pregnant she said its just that my body isn't used to those extra 9 pounds and especially with it all being in the front it throws off your body's natural balance. Swimming helps SO much with all the little aches and pains. It releases all that built up tension in your body. I don't mean all out lap swimming but just getting yourself moving in the water…you'd be amazed how great it is…especially for the back pain too!! I try to get to the pool every day and the days that I dont make it I sleep crappy at night because the little aches and pains keep me up. My doctor also said to MAKE SURE you are drinking loads of water to keep everything well lubricated and that that would help with the pain as well. And remember…you can take tylenol for pain. I know it doesn't do a whole lot but it will at least dull it a little bit and every little bit helps! Congrats on the baby, good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and I wish you a safe and healthy delivery!!
